3 Interior Lighting Design Tips

The lighting system you have at home can make a huge difference to the look and feel of your living spaces, so if you are planning on doing some home makeovers at the moment, reviewing how you’ve chosen to light certain parts of the house is a great place to start.

But, of course, unless you’re an expert and have done it before, it can be hard to know where to begin and what you should be doing - so here are some interior lighting design hints and tips from us here at Lumination, which should help point you in the right direction.

Make a lighting plan

Before you spend any money, take the time to come up with a lighting plan for each room. Think about what you’ll be using the space for and which parts of the room you want to highlight. Doing this will make sure you don’t spend money unnecessarily.

Layer your lights

Don’t rely on just a single light source. Instead, layer your lighting up and have different light sources on different levels throughout the room, bringing in floor and table lamps, as well as overhead lights.

Consider a triangle pattern

For a really effective lighting system, consider using a triangle system. For example, in the living room, you could position a lamp on a table behind your sofa, another one on a table nearby and a floor lamp near a reading chair to create a beautifully ambient space that you really want to spend time in.
