Lights for security are designed to trigger when there is movement at night. Fitted with effective PIR sensors they will detect heat from a moving source and instantly switch on and then extinguish after a preset time. In many cases the security light is adjustable and in some cases the PIR itself can be adjusted separately. This means it can be set up so as the PIR sensor triggers when needed and not spuriously for small animals and the like.

Security lighting for outdoor

In today's world home security is a must and having a good system of security lighting will give the peace of mind that in the event of unexpected intrusion you will be alerted by the area being suddenly flooded with light. At the same time the security lighting system provides the homeowner with necessary light when navigating the outside areas of the property. With a manual over ride then the floodlighting system can also be used for entertaining in the open space. So what is often referred to as security lighting is in fact multi purpose lighting for the outside.

PIR sensors come as either integral to the individual light or as separate sensors operating more than one outside light. In general the separate sensor will have more control options and be more accurate in detection that for the integral sensor.

When installing security lights then making sure it is set at a reasonable height will help to ensure it is not triggered unnecessarily by small animals. As a guide a set height of around 3m is ideal. Then the sensor is adjusted to reach out rather than down again to prevent spurious triggering. Other controls may be the level of light at which the sensor triggers and the time duration for the light remaining on.

For the times when you require continuous light then a security light with an over ride feature may be the best selection allowing for you to manually control the light.
