How to Choose Wall Wash Lights for Perfect Lighting?

Check Brightness Level

Do you want to light up a wedding hall or an art gallery? Then you need a wall washer light indoor with a high beam. But if it's for residential purposes, like living rooms or bedrooms, go for softer warm lights. 

Get the Distance Right

Wall washers need space to work properly. If you place it too close to the wall, you will end up with harsh streaks instead of a smooth spread. As a good rule of thumb, keep the fixture roughly one-third of the wall's height away from it. For a 3-metre wall, that's about 1 metre distance.

Match the Style to Your Interior

Some lights are meant to stand out while others stay minimal. Ceramic or paintable fixtures blend in, while modern designs add a visual element. Think about whether you want the fitting to be seen or just the light effect.

Decide on Dimmability

If you want flexibility, choose dimmable fixtures. They let you go from bright task lighting to soft ambient glow with one switch. Always check if your fixtures and dimmer switch are compatible or not before buying.

Tips for Getting the Best From Your Wall Washers

Space Them Evenly

Avoid bright spots and dark patches by spacing your fixtures at equal intervals. For most wall washers, 60 to 90 cm apart works well.

Keep Them Away From Glass

Don't install wall washers right next to windows or mirrors. The glass will reflect the light and create unwanted glare.

Consider Multiple Fixtures for Long Walls

One wall washer can't light an entire wall evenly. For walls longer than 2 metres, plan for two or more fixtures spaced evenly apart.

Test Before Final Installation

If possible, test your lights in position before fixing them permanently. Small adjustments to angle and position can make a big difference to the final effect.
