Outdoor floor lights
Lumination's outdoor floor lights cover ground-recessed uplighters for garden paths, driveways and feature areas, and surface-mounted low-level floor fittings for outdoor entertaining spaces. Every fitting carries IP67 or IP66 ratings for ground-level outdoor installation where standing water may accumulate. Brands include Saxby and Endon.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ground-recessed outdoor floor lights require IP67 ratings as a minimum, rather than the IP65 required for above-ground fittings. IP67 confirms that the fitting is watertight against temporary immersion in water up to 1 m depth for 30 minutes. This standard is required for ground-level fittings because surface water, rain pooling and irrigation runoff can accumulate in the ground-level recess around the fitting and temporarily submerge the fitting body. IP65 is sufficient for splash and jet resistance but does not protect against temporary immersion. For garden path and terrace floor lights where standing water is possible, IP67 is always the correct specification. Lumination confirms the IP rating for every outdoor floor light in this range and all ground-recessed fittings carry IP67. Saxby produces reliable IP67 ground-recessed uplighters for residential and commercial garden use.
Yes, but only if the fitting is specifically rated for drive-over use. Standard ground-recessed garden uplighters are rated for pedestrian traffic only and will be damaged by vehicle loads. Drive-over rated ground-recessed outdoor fittings carry a load rating of at least 3 tonnes (the load applied by a standard car tyre) and typically also carry an IK rating of IK10 for impact resistance. If the fitting is to be set into a driveway surface or any area where vehicles will pass over it, confirm the drive-over rating on the product page before purchasing. Lumination lists drive-over ratings for ground-recessed fittings where the manufacturer confirms them. For non-drive-over ground fittings in a driveway area, protect the fitting with a concrete installation box and ensure no vehicle passes directly over the aperture. Free delivery applies to all outdoor floor light orders over £75.
Ground-recessed outdoor uplighter installation requires the following steps: an underground cable run from the house distribution board to the installation position, buried at minimum 600 mm in a garden path and 750 mm under a driveway; a concrete installation box set into the ground at the correct depth for the specific fitting; the cable routed into the installation box; the fitting inserted and secured according to the manufacturer's instructions; and the face of the fitting set flush with the surrounding ground surface. All outdoor electrical work must be notified under Part P and carried out by a qualified electrician. The concrete installation box must be set accurately level with the final ground surface. Any discrepancy in level creates a trip hazard or a recess that collects debris. Lumination lists the installation box requirements and fitting depth for every ground-recessed outdoor floor light in this range.
Residential ground-recessed outdoor uplighters typically produce 300 to 1,000 lumens per fitting, depending on the model and wattage. For garden feature uplighting of a standard ornamental tree, 300 to 500 lumens at a narrow 15 to 25 degree beam angle creates an effective dramatic uplighting effect on the trunk and lower canopy. For path surface lighting where a flush fitting illuminates the ground area around it, a medium-output 500 to 800 lumen fitting with a 36 to 60 degree beam gives practical walking-level illumination. For architectural house-wall uplighting, 600 to 1,000 lumens per fitting gives enough output to create a visible facade lighting effect at a comfortable residential scale. Lumination lists lumen output and beam angle on all outdoor floor lights and the Taunton showroom team can advise on the right output for specific garden applications.
Lumination stocks outdoor ground-recessed floor lights from Saxby and Endon. Saxby produces IP67 ground-recessed uplighters in circular and square formats in stainless steel, anthracite and bronze finishes, with integrated LED modules from 300 to 1,000 lumens and beam angles from 15 to 60 degrees. Saxby also produces drive-over rated versions for driveway installation. Endon covers decorative ground-recessed options with a broader range of face plate designs and finishes. Both brands are selected by Lumination's buying team for confirmed IP67 compliance and reliable performance in UK outdoor garden conditions.
