Frequently Asked Questions
For a bathroom wall light used as above-mirror task lighting, mount the centre of the fitting at 1.8 m to 2 m from the floor. This height positions the light above head height, which prevents direct glare when looking in the mirror and illuminates the face from above rather than from the side. If using side-mirror lights in place of an above-mirror fitting, mount them at eye level of approximately 1.6 m from the floor, one to each side of the mirror, spaced to frame the mirror rather than overhang it. Lumination's team at the Taunton and Wellington showrooms advises on bathroom wall light positioning as part of full bathroom lighting consultations. Free delivery is available on orders over £75.
Yes. Any wall light installed in a bathroom zone must carry the appropriate IP rating under UK wiring regulations (BS 7671). Zone 2, which covers the area within 60 cm of a bath, shower tray or basin, requires IP44 minimum. Most bathroom mirror positions are within Zone 2. A standard indoor wall light with an IP20 rating must not be used in any bathroom zone. Lumination confirms the IP rating and zone suitability on every bathroom wall light product page. All bathroom wall lights in Lumination's range carry IP44 or IP65 ratings, and our buying team selects only fittings with independently verified IP compliance from Endon, Saxby and Bravo Lighting.
For a bathroom mirror light used for grooming tasks, a colour temperature of 3,000 K to 4,000 K produces the most accurate and flattering facial illumination. At 3,000 K the light is warm-neutral and produces natural skin tones without the yellow cast of 2,700 K warm white. At 4,000 K the light is a clean neutral white that is close to natural daylight. The International Commission on Illumination recommends 4,000 K for grooming tasks specifically because it produces the most colour-accurate facial rendering. Avoid cool 5,000 K to 6,500 K daylight-spectrum lights in bathrooms, as they can make skin tones appear pale or unnatural. Lumination lists colour temperature on all bathroom wall light product pages.
For a wall light inside a shower cubicle (Zone 1), IP65 is the minimum required rating under UK wiring regulations. IP65 provides protection against low-pressure water jets from any direction, which is the correct standard for positions exposed to direct shower spray. Very few decorative wall lights meet IP65, so shower cubicle wall lighting is usually limited to small recessed IP65 downlights. Lumination stocks IP65 recessed downlights suitable for shower cubicle installation in the bathroom ceiling lights range. Never install an IP44 fitting inside a shower cubicle Zone 1 position, as IP44 provides splash-proof protection only and is not sufficient for direct water jet exposure.
Lumination stocks bathroom wall lights from Endon, Saxby and Bravo Lighting. Endon offers the widest range of above-mirror and decorative bathroom wall lights, covering globe, bar and sconce styles in IP44 ratings across chrome, brushed nickel and white finishes. Saxby produces clean contemporary bathroom wall lights at competitive prices with reliable IP ratings. Bravo Lighting focuses on integrated LED bathroom wall fittings that offer good lumen output from compact housings. Lumination has been selecting bathroom lighting from specialist manufacturers for over 25 years and stocks only fittings with confirmed IP compliance.
